Make new friends, but keep the old ones, one is silver and the other gold SOOOO true. It's how I think about LJ friends, too!

(You might want to check/fix the coding for this post)

Yay for the continuing delight of hobbity folks, hobbity fics, hobbity posts, hobbity love!

You're attending the Tolkien Moot?! *screams*

EVERYBODY is attending this moot - welll, at least I know of 3 people I would SO like to meet - and I'm in Scotland but I don't think I will be able to come :( I just know too few things about September, apart from having a visit with my adviser in the week before studies start (which is the last week of September, I think). And, what's worse, I don't know about my finances. Oh, I would so love to at least come by and say hi. You don't happen to be anywhere close to Aberdeen?

For fixing the code:
The mistake lies here:

THE FANFIC MEME < gacked from < lj user="sophinisba" > < lj-cut >

Change the < in front of gacked to ( and everything should work fine again.

Sorry for spamming, but the Scotland Moot had me post before I was finished with reading the entry :p

I like what you said about fanfics and I pretty much agree with everything, except that I ALWAYS have my stories betaed. :)
Reviews are a great motivator and I always feel a little discouraged when a story I worked on hard only gets little acknowledgment. But, in fact, I write for me - what I like to read and what comes to me easily.

A very interesting post indeed.

*hugs*

Interesting post. It’s good to keep getting to know LJ friends and “their” hobbits.

I loved reading this. It's such fun to get to know LJ friends a little better through these memes.

I think a lot happened since you came to LJ, thinking about it, I had you friended since I started my own LJ again in 2004 ;) It's a pity that I couldn't get the finances together for the Tolkien Moot..

Also I am always amazed at the speed you can write fics! Truly amazing

That girl scout thing sounds good. I was never in the scouts or something similar but I do like that. And who could toss the hobbits out and not think about them any more? They're in my soul! I couldn't forget about them if I tried.

I really love challenges--a prompt or a starter sentence to send me in a direction I may never have otherwise thought to go, or that is the final impetus for a bunny that’s been bugging me.

They are a really great help for me too. A specific prompt like an object or a phrase tends to work especially well for me, more than a general theme. I think a lot of times I have ideas, things I want to say about my characters and their relationships, but it's more difficult for me to come up with a plot to fit those with on my own, and the prompts help me out with that.

It *does* disappoint me a tad when someone takes up a new fandom and *drops* LotR altogether in favor of the new

Yes, this is a sad thing for me too. I want to be happy for people when they find new things to get excited about but sometimes it does worry me if it seems like the first sign that they might be giving up on the hobbits, especially they're writers whose fic I enjoy.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I enjoyed reading these. (And I like the other meme too. Unfortunately I can't pick a favorite entry from my own LJ, but it is a cool idea.)

You seem to write fanfic for similiar reasons to me. I just can't get enough Aragorn h/c stories based on book canon !I'm always sorry too when people change fandoms, though I confess I started off writing Star Trek fanfic, but had long abandoned writing it when I started LOTR.I think I've made too many friends in the LOTR fandom to switch, though I know I can only write as long as my Muse continues to oblige.

I had no idea you were planning on going to Scotmoot! That is so very excellent! I am looking forward to meeting everyone and I am very happy that I might get to meet you there too! (Jumping up and down now, ignore me.)

Marigold is definitely to blame for getting lots of people involved with fandom/LJ!

I expect to hear lots of reports (and hopefully see lots of pictures) of the Scotland Moot. I'll be living vicariously though all of you, please don't disappoint!

The OTFandom---you said it, girl!! Amen!!!! :)

It's amazing how something as devastating as Katrina can make a person appreciate the little things, isn't it? I know I've missed my flist terribly during the roughest moments of life.

I enjoyed reading these!

“Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold…”

I never heard that one before, but it's very sound advise :-)
