Date: 2007-05-10 03:56 pm (UTC)EVERYBODY is attending this moot - welll, at least I know of 3 people I would SO like to meet - and I'm in Scotland but I don't think I will be able to come :( I just know too few things about September, apart from having a visit with my adviser in the week before studies start (which is the last week of September, I think). And, what's worse, I don't know about my finances. Oh, I would so love to at least come by and say hi. You don't happen to be anywhere close to Aberdeen?

Date: 2007-05-10 04:00 pm (UTC)The mistake lies here:
THE FANFIC MEME < gacked from < lj user="sophinisba" > < lj-cut >
Change the < in front of gacked to ( and everything should work fine again.

Date: 2007-05-10 04:05 pm (UTC)I like what you said about fanfics and I pretty much agree with everything, except that I ALWAYS have my stories betaed. :)
Reviews are a great motivator and I always feel a little discouraged when a story I worked on hard only gets little acknowledgment. But, in fact, I write for me - what I like to read and what comes to me easily.
A very interesting post indeed.
*hugs*

Date: 2007-05-10 07:41 pm (UTC)They are a really great help for me too. A specific prompt like an object or a phrase tends to work especially well for me, more than a general theme. I think a lot of times I have ideas, things I want to say about my characters and their relationships, but it's more difficult for me to come up with a plot to fit those with on my own, and the prompts help me out with that.
It *does* disappoint me a tad when someone takes up a new fandom and *drops* LotR altogether in favor of the new
Yes, this is a sad thing for me too. I want to be happy for people when they find new things to get excited about but sometimes it does worry me if it seems like the first sign that they might be giving up on the hobbits, especially they're writers whose fic I enjoy.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I enjoyed reading these. (And I like the other meme too. Unfortunately I can't pick a favorite entry from my own LJ, but it is a cool idea.)

Date: 2007-05-12 05:15 am (UTC)It's amazing how something as devastating as Katrina can make a person appreciate the little things, isn't it? I know I've missed my flist terribly during the roughest moments of life.
I enjoyed reading these!
