Title: Wishing It Was Hot
Rating: general
Theme: Some like it hot
Element: 275 words
Summary: The muse gave me a second batch of words for the theme, although this might not seem like it fits at first glance. Glorfindel, a Maia, a beach at night, and rain. (Note: This is also set in a variation of Fiondil's Valar Ficverse, in which he is so kind as to let me play.)
Wishing It Was Hot
Glorfindel glared sourly at Eonwë. The Maia, having incarnated, turned his face up to the clouds that spread out overhead like a canopy the colour of Lord Námo’s eyes. “I’d quite forgotten how nice the falling rain feels.” He extended his hands out from his sides and caught the droplets on his fingertips and palms as he turned about with delight on the jeweled sands.
“Being wet and cold is not nice,” The elf grumbled as he pulled his hood further over his head, trying unsuccessfully to keep the rain from his face. “No tent, no fire. I wasn’t expecting to have to spend the night in a cold downpour.” Seated on a black basalt rock, the hithlain cape wrapped tightly about him, he glared out over the phosphorous-trimmed waves of the eastern sea. “Why are we out here anyway? Couldn’t this wait until summer, when it’s properly hot and sunny outside?”
Lord Manwë’s Herald stopped his graceful dance and joined Glorfindel on his rock. “Because Lord Manwë said so?” he teased. Receiving a scowl from the golden haired elf, he continued more seriously, “Because, my friend, you are being prepared for something.”
“Why can’t I prepare for it in a nice dry tent, or, better yet, a properly warm house?” Glorfindel dashed a heavy raindrop from the tip of his nose, and swore creatively.
The Maia sighed and summoned the Book of Oaths and his quill. As Glorfindel watched him add another line to the page, Eonwë looked up at the bedraggled elf. “Middle-earth is not as temperate of climate as is Aman. Think of this as practice.”
“Practice for what?!”
“For going back.”
