Title: A Wedding Song
Rating: G
Theme: Poetry
Elements: drink
Author's Notes: Written while I was hashing out how hobbit weddings would look in my take on the Shire.
Summary: A hobbit wedding song
Word Count: 139

On this bright occasion, we gather together
To witness the joining of hobbit and bride.
Unto one another they now pledge to tether
Their hands and their hearts, for their lives to abide.
For we who bear witness to their love’s fulfilling,
To share in the pleasure of their new days’ dawn,
How glad must we feel at their joy over-spilling,
How sweet the reminder of life’s going on.

The bride looks so lovely, her face brightly glowing,
The groom smiles so widely when he sees her face.
Their family and loved ones together are showing
The gladness that comes of new kinsmen’s embrace.
Come cheer for the twain and their love’s consummation,
And wish them long lifetimes both merry and blithe,
Come drink from the cup of today’s jubilation
Come join in the mirth of this blest hobbit-mithe.

Author's Notes: This song was traditionally sung at the start of the wedding ceremony, to signal to all (especially at a large wedding) that the wedding was to begin. It thus served as a processional for the bride and the groom.
