The February Challenge

The theme for the February Challenge will be “Light and Shadow” (in honor of Groundhog Day). The element will be a gapfiller for the books. You may request: The Hobbit, FotR Book I, FotR Book II, TTT Book III, TTT Book IV, RotK Book V, RotK Book VI, The Silmarillion or The Children of Hurin for your gapfiller. How you incorporate the theme into your gap is up to you.

Stories will be due the weekend of February 20, for revealing on February 22. You may post them at any time preceding that, as they will remain in the moderator's queue until the reveal date. Please tag your stories "light and shadow".

I enjoyed this one very much. I can't do drabbles at all in any form. Your drouble is even beyond me. That is why I have not gotten mixed up in this particular meme. LOL I am enjoying reading what others post though. Keep them coming!

I think that's one reason they are such good friends; their personalities compliment one another, each one giving his own particular strength to the other.

By the way: I adore that icon! I've always loved that picture.

Oh, that was sad but good! I never thought about the first time they went to Crickhollow after getting back from the Quest. Hm...

It would have been a rather emotional experience, I think. Frodo was so good to give it to them. He knew just what they would need.

What a moving insight into the reason why these two brave and bold Captains chose the house in Crickhollow. It's not so much cocky independence than the still raw, nightmare-riddled spirit. Thank you so much for this.

I've always thought that it would have been the main reason: the need to keep some of their lingering pain and fears away from prying eyes and probing questions. Of course the matter of independence enters into it as well. It would have been very difficult for Pippin,especially, to have to go back to basically being a child.

The fact that he was not yet of age was the reason for his hesitation. In my Shire, the property of the minor belongs to the parent. Only if special legal arrangements are made may it be otherwise. As Merry indicated, Frodo did that with Paladin over the matter of Pippin's owning half the house.
