Epilogue

He had been wrong. He was glad he had been wrong.

There had been no mission of espionage from the Steward, just a long and dangerous quest by two small and valiant people, to do what even Isildur could not do: put a final end to the Dark Lord and all his works.

And he had been wrong about not seeing them alive again as well--though that had been a question on everyone's mind for two weeks. Yet here they were, looking very tiny and forlorn, in the ragged clothes they had worn into the Black Land, being led by Mithrandir.

They had walked into Shadow and brought back the Light.

He grinned, glancing over at Eradan and Anborn and the others, and raised his own voice to join in the others:

Long live the Halflings! Praise them with great praise!
Cuio i Pheriain anann! Aglar’ni Pheriainnath!
Praise them with great praise, Frodo and Samwise!
Daur a Berhael, Conin en Annûn! Eglerio!
Praise them!
Eglerio!
A laita te, laita te! Andave laituvalmet!
Praise them!
Praise them! The Ring-bearers, praise them with great praise!

Yay, what a glorious ending. I'm so happy he got to see them return victorious.

I'm glad they appreciate not only how wrong their guesses were, but the true worth of the quest Frodo and Sam had taken upon themselves! Ah, how wonderful!

i sometimes think that people miss the point about this verse, was glad to see you use it as the celebration that it can be. you make it possible to see that the entire field of beings were so caught up in the joy and love that it had to pour forth and be shared.

I loved all this Dreamflower. Glad you stuck to Canon rather than the movie-verse.

P.s. Just finished re-reading your Road to Edoras. Dying for you to finish it but I am guessing that there are many other bunies nibbling at your hairy toes! :)

Whee, I finally read this! This was a delight to read. I so love reading about this period of time. These were good men, but they were also men accustomed to enemies and being at war for as long as they could remember and well, Frodo and Sam are very lucky that Faramir was wiser than most! :) Anyway, this was a lovely vignette about that encounter!

Aragorn's "Good and evil have not changed since yesteryear, nor are they one thing for Elves and Dwarves and another for Men. It is a Man's part to discern them, whether in the Golden Wood or in his own house" apply here as well. Faramir, Mablung and his men have discerned well.
