“Sugar and spice and all things nice, that’s what all lasses are made of.”

“Bite your tongue, Vinca!” Pippin chided. “There’s no sugar in you and the spice is pepper.”

“Pippin!”

“’Tis true and you know it, Pervinca Took.” He held up his hand. “And I know, the rest of the rhyme fits me. ‘Snips and snails and puppy dog tails, that’s what lads are made of’”

“Pervinca Boffin, if you please.”

Pippin looked at the babe in her arms, his new niece, Daisy, and smiled. “I’ll grant you, you have added a new bit of sugar to the mix.”

What an adorable use of the words and of the old nursery rhyme! I love that even at this stage of life, Pippin and Pervinca are still continuing their fond bickering-- and I always love seeing Pippin as a doting uncle!

I have always felt that the two youngest would have the biggest battles. It's hard to lose your spot as the baby and then to have it be done by the family's only lad! :-O

I love the sudden warmth at the end of the drabble! It caught me completely off guard because I was watching the banter of two quarreling siblings and wasn't expecting a sudden melting on Pippin's part. That was delightful!
