Well, I was still in the same country, but another state--we crossed over the bottom of Alabama to get into Florida. That was driving east. But if we drove five hours north, we'd still be in Mississippi. Many of the states are as large or larger, than some European countries. It's been a long time--I was, oh, ten years old--but it used to take at least two, maybe three days, to go across Texas at its widest point. I am quite sure though that with the new interstate system now it would probably only take about ten hours.
