Show Don't Tell
For this month's challenge, writers will create a story that includes no dialogue. Your prompt will be a gesture or action that one of your characters must perform during the story.

The March challenge stories will be due Friday, March 21, and will be revealed on Sunday, March 23. (Because this announcement is late, we have built in an automatic one week extension.) Please tag your story "show don't tell" and " '14 march". Please remember to use the following header template (also found on the community profile page),  and to put the name of your story and your name in the subject line.

To request your elements, please leave a comment to this post. If you have not participated before, please leave an email address so that I can send you your elements. Or you can email the mods at aelfwina@gmail.com or virginia_lee_redcat@yahoo.com

I hope we'll have lots of participants for our March challenge!

I'll take an element, too. No dialogue, eh? That will be interesting!

I'll have an element! I'm still working on February's challenge piece, but it's coming along, so I'm ready to try my hand at another one. ;-)

Thanks. May I just ask for a clarification? Does "no dialogue" merely mean that there is to be no direct speech in quote marks, or that the characters can't talk to each other at all, even if the speech is only alluded to indirectly? i.e. Would passages such as "for the next few minutes, they debated what to do. Bob wanted to stand and fight, but Ted vehemently opposed this idea," be okay, because there's no quoted dialogue, or not okay, because the characters are still talking to each other and we're told roughly what they're talking about, even though we don't hear the exact words? I have no preference either way; I'd just like to know before I start chasing down ideas for my prompt. :-)

I believe we were considering no talking at all when we conceived the idea, but since we did not specify, the "indirect" option is open if that's where inspiration takes you.

No, it's okay: I'll stick to the rules as they were intended. It's no problem at all. That's how I initially interpreted the challenge, anyway. :-)

Is it too late to participate in this challenge? I'd like to give it a try.
